IDP’s Crisis 2009

In 2009, IDP’s crisis in Malakand-Division led to substantial catastrophe in the history .This crisis disrupted lives of the local communities which led to displacement of more than three million people as development has disrupted and in some case reversed. This conflict and violence situation affected enormously on the livelihoods of local communities.

In addition to this, return of IDP’s has resulted a huge challenge for the humanitarian actors to carry out recovery and rehabilitation activities for returnees. The situation was fragile at that time as returnees were more vulnerable at their native place without any social safety nets.

In that crucial time, QC initiated Malakand Integrated Early Recovery and Rehabilitation Programme-MIERRP in 2009 as pilot phase in Swat and after the success of pilot phase, QC continued MIERRP to rehabilitate and restore livelihood of communities of Swat. Under this project a total 35,700 individuals are receiving assistance in form of restoration of livelihoods.
